Keep Gift Wrap Essentials Organized and Accessible

I love the holiday season, the twinkling lights, visiting friends and family.  The excitement of presents under the tree, the delight in the eyes of my grandchildren.  Going for a walk in the evenings, admiring the neighbours outdoor decorations and seeing your breath in the air; somethings never get old.
What does get old is locating wrapping paper, then finding the tape, scissors, bows, ribbons, tags and cards and keeping it organized.
I like the idea of under the bed storage for rolls wrapping paper, I find the plastic gift wrap storage boxes found at stores pricey.  Excellent alternatives are soft garment bags and sweater storage bags, found at local discount stores like Deals World for a fraction of the cost of the plastic storage boxes, and often come with a spot to slide in a label.  I recommend using a label maker, using the extra large font.  Store it horizontally – wherever you have room – in a closet, under the bed or on a shelf.
If under the bed or horizontal storage is not an option, then I suggest a hanging, gift wrap organizer, it keeps gift wrap essentials organized and accessible.  The organizer hangs in your closet or over a door like a garment bag.
An over the door shoe bag can be converted into a gift wrap organizer.  Tuck rolls of wrapping paper into the lower shoe pockets, secure rolls with a strip of grosgrain ribbon across the top of the rolls; attached with self adhesive Velcro.  Store all your decorative packaging necessities such as tape, scissors, bows, ribbons, and tags stored with the gift wrap in the extra shoe pockets and you’ll have everything you need for gift wrapping all year.
Invest in or create a greeting card organizer, it is extremely handy.  I chose a box slightly larger than the largest greeting card, then used labeled tab dividers cut to size to separate the cards into occasions; leaving extra room for seasonal cards.  I keep a pen clipped to the front divider, this way everything you need to prepare your cards is at your finger tips.  An accordion file is another quick way to keep greeting cards for every occasion organized.
Enjoy a creative and organized holiday season.

Quality on a Dime

I love thrifting! There I said it… it is out in the open. It all started with my niece’s new found passion for Tupperware, a couple of parties later and all the conversation of the old Tupperware some us still had in cupboards…      This led me to thrift stores looking for a sackful of tupperware treasures; to give my niece as a fun gift. After a run in the dishwasher, I wrapped each piece separately. It was a good laugh and a perfect gift idea.
Stay tuned… Continuing to love your space.

Bird Cage Inspirations

By Roxanne Griese

Garage sales and flea markets are a delightful place for imagination. A ginormous free standing bird cage recently purchased at a garage sale, was too good of a deal to pass up…
So let’s think outside of the cage!
My favorite re-use of a bird cage was a garden planter, a tray with poked drain holes and filled with potting soil was placed on the bottom of the cage as a liner. A small bird bath attached to outside of the cage invites wild birds to rest awhile.
Colorful planted annuals, trailing plants and climbing ivy’s, turned the large bird cage into a lush planter. It was the unexpected cage placed in a garden; that catches your attention and lends to conversation.. Now that is thinking outside of the cage….
